Citizen’s Climate Lobby Event on Environmental Justice

Flint, Michigan. Pipelines, fracking, oil spills. Oak Flat, Rio Tinto. The borderlands - people, wildlife, water - and the fight over mining the Santa Rita Mountains. These names and places are among just the latest in a long history of environmental disputes. Disputes that go hand-in-hand with poverty, inequality, and sickness, and economic and social inequality. An unequal burden that now includes the pandemic and climate change. Movements such as Black Lives Matter and the Green New Deal have drawn our attention to the topic of Environmental Justice. With the Biden Administration placing it at the top of its priorities, along with COVID relief and climate change, now is a good time to educate ourselves on the issues. Join the Citizen’s Climate Lobby member Anna Spitz - the director of the University of Arizona Agnese Nelms Haury Program on Environmental Justice for a special discussion on Saturday to explore this important topic.
